The past month (July, 2024) has been an extremely special one for me! My book has been published on Amazon and is available now at the locations listed above. It was on a summer day nineteen years ago that I casually began researching my family history at the Peterborough, Ontario archives. Little did I know that my curiosity would lead me to writing this book. It has been an extremely educational and rewarding experience. People have already asked me to write a second part! The wheels for that have started turning.
A brief description of my book —
The Peter Robinson Experiment
Author — M. English—Cooper
In 1825, prolonged rainfall and economic policies in rural Ireland brought the livelihoods of thousands to a breaking point and sparked rebellion. An experiment, under the direction of Peter Robinson, was designed to remove 2 024 of the impoverished, tenant farmers and malcontents, transport them to Canada, and then measure their ability to transform the wilderness into productive farmland. The Peter Robinson Experiment chronicles this era of Canadian history and tells the story of Patrick and Margaret Heffernan’s journey which, overshadowed by great uncertainty, demanded unwavering determination to reach their new home safely.
I want to extend a special thank you to Kristy at Umbrellasquared Design Group for her
fantastic work on my book cover.

Hi Mary,
I chair the Irish Research Group in Ottawa, a part of the Ottawa Branch of Ontario Ancestors (the Ontario Genealogical Society). I was wondering if you are located close enough to Ottawa to join us at one of our monthly meetings to speak about your book. Please contact me at IRGLibrary@gmail.com.

I have ordered a copy of your book and am so excited to read it. Patrick and Margaret Heffernan are my 4x Great Grandparents!
